Marathi Literature Knowledge Platform

A searchable record of a language's entire published literature MKCL Knowledge Foundation

1,00,000+

books catalogued, with 40,000+ author profiles and 16,000+ publishers

The problem. The record of Marathi publishing — which books exist, who wrote them, who published them — was scattered across catalogues and archives with no structured, queryable form, which made it effectively undiscoverable online.

What we built. A structured knowledge base linking books, authors and publishers as related records rather than flat listings, so the catalogue can be searched, cross-referenced and browsed by relationship.

A searchable record of a language's entire published literature — a screen from the system built for MKCL Knowledge Foundation, client data blurred.

The situation

Marathi Sahitya Srushti is an initiative of the MKCL Knowledge Foundation to bring the record of Marathi literature online as a public resource.

The material existed, but not in a form anything could query. Making cultural heritage discoverable meant first making it structured.

What we built

One of the largest structured databases of Marathi books, authors and publishers in existence, built so the three are linked records rather than three separate lists.

The platform now holds over 1,00,000 catalogued books, more than 40,000 author profiles and over 16,000 publishers.
